Which Prime are you cancelling?
Amazon UK runs several Prime products under similar names, and the cancellation flow depends on exactly which one you're paying for. Before anything else, check your most recent invoice in Account & Lists → Memberships & Subscriptions:
- Amazon Prime — the full membership: Prime delivery, Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Gaming, Prime Reading. This guide focuses here.
- Prime Video (standalone) — just the streaming service, no delivery benefits. Cancelled the same way but with a different label on the Manage page.
- Prime Student — discounted student membership, otherwise functionally identical for cancellation.
- Prime Video Channels — paid add-ons (Paramount+, Discovery+, MGM+, Crime + Investigation). Cancelled separately — see the FAQ above.
If you cancel full Prime, the Channels keep charging. Cancel them individually if you don't want them.
The 14-day refund rule
Under Amazon UK's Prime terms, you can cancel within 14 days of signing up or renewing and get an automatic full refund of the annual or monthly fee — as long as you haven't used Prime benefits.
Refund eligibility, in order of strictness:
| What you used | Refund | |---|---| | Nothing | Full refund | | Only Prime delivery (one or more orders) | Partial refund | | Prime Video, Music, Gaming, or Reading at all | No refund |
The refund is processed automatically when you select End Now on the final cancellation screen. Money arrives back on the original payment method within 3 to 5 working days.
Past the 14-day window, you can still cancel any time — but Amazon won't issue a refund. Your membership simply continues to the renewal date and then ends with no further charges.
Step-by-step cancellation
The fastest desktop path:
-
Sign in at amazon.co.uk.
-
Hover over Account & Lists in the top-right and select Prime (or go directly to amazon.co.uk/mc).
-
Click the Manage Membership drop-down on the right side of the page.
-
Choose Update, Cancel and More.
-
On the next screen, click End Membership (Amazon may show this as Continue to Cancel first).
-
Click through the retention screens — Amazon will pitch the benefits, offer to switch you to monthly billing, and remind you what you'll lose. On each screen, the cancel option is at the bottom or right (small button or text link), never the centre (which is always the "keep" CTA).
-
On the final screen, pick:
- End on [date] — keep all Prime benefits until your current period ends. No refund.
- End Now — end immediately and trigger any eligible refund.
-
Confirm. Amazon shows a screen and emails a confirmation with the exact end date.
The mobile app follows the same flow — Account → Prime Membership → Manage → End Membership — but the desktop site is generally faster to navigate.
Where Amazon hides the cancel button
If you can't find the cancel option:
- Manage Membership drop-down is missing? You're not on the right account — confirm you're signed in to the Amazon account that holds the Prime membership. Households can have multiple accounts.
- No "End Membership" link? You may have already cancelled — check the page header for the line "Your membership renews on…" vs. "Your membership ends on…". The second means it's already cancelled.
- Site keeps redirecting? Use the direct URL: amazon.co.uk/gp/subs/primeclub/account/homepage.html.
Cancel a Prime Video add-on (Paramount+, Discovery+, MGM+)
Amazon Prime Video Channels are separate subscriptions billed alongside Prime. They have their own cancellation page.
- Account & Lists → Memberships & Subscriptions.
- Find the channel under Prime Video Channels (or under Subscriptions).
- Click Cancel Channel.
- Confirm.
Cancelling Prime itself does not cancel a Prime Video Channel — Amazon keeps billing for it from the original payment method even after Prime ends. So if you cancel Prime and you ever subscribed to a paid channel, double-check the Memberships & Subscriptions page.
After cancelling
A successful Prime UK cancellation gives you:
- A confirmation screen stating the end date (or "ending now").
- A confirmation email within a few minutes.
- A status on the Prime page that reads "Your membership ends on…" rather than "Your membership renews on…".
- A refund, if you were inside the 14-day window and ended now — arrives in 3 to 5 working days.
If you don't see the email after an hour, re-do the cancel flow — most likely you stopped one screen before the final confirmation. Amazon never processes a cancellation without showing a green confirmation screen.
